In the Names of God
by Michael Doyle
Giving thanks for the past week
Thinking back even as I begin to speak
Studying the value of God's holy names
Assured in differences that are yet the same
In being our savior in every moment
In all of our joy and seasons of torment
When even prison shines like a prism
And Paul's letters bring unity not schism
There's something to all of God's names
We remember the chains of childlike games
That when we call out God for all His Good
These are the options best understood
Yet it is best to remember not to be inane
The Lord's name should never be taken in vain
For he is like a fortress strong in tower
And present in our every day and passing hour
The holy names of God enumerate each quality
In cognate equivalents featuring His deity
Each personifying the I Am who will always be
With each name a matter of shades of theology
Prabhu is the prince of deepness and dominion
Enlightened in all corners of world opinion
Where the world is circular in its reason
And shapes and shades its way through seasons
The pronunciation must be guarded with care
For the Elohim proclaims what some won't dare
That the Godhood is one and yet a holy trinity
From the wilderness, El Shaddai came with dignity
Bringing the twins of construction and destruction
Into the realm of our holiest books of instruction
This transcends from the pages of a holy story
To the God we know and worship in all of His glory
For His is the beginning and the end of the Light
And His is the power to break the day from the night
Abba the Father speaks through flame and in the sky
As we worship the holiest of holies without asking why
It is in these moments that we have come to be stilled
That the truest of God's names is to us the revealed
It is the truth that bares our souls in its incarnation
That we His worshippers breath in our inspiration
