A Harper Rises
by Michael Doyle
When a harper rises from his slumber
And whatever the spell that he's been under
He will find his answers become right
As though illuminated by the light
No longer trading in colloquialisms and slight
But speaking only the true, noble, and right
It's part of his order and its nobility
As he conducts himself with great sensibility
The puzzles of life may slow him down
But onward he'll go toward victory's crown
Undaunted by the many awkward stumbles
However many bridges that might crumble
Though he may forget himself along the way
The fog will lift and will not ever stay
Though all in this life seems not to go right
He keeps his faith and to it, he holds on tight
This then is the truth of the harper's way
To give it your all in effort and everyway
When Plan A proves unworkable, try Plan B
Let your belief kick in to find new possibility
He keeps on trying, sometimes not knowing why
Though he will offer neither excuse or alibi
He only knows that it is what indeed most be done
To fight the good fight until he has won
It seems, he only needs to prove himself as clever
As it takes to achieve his very next endeavor
He's learned to be strong, when feeling weak
What his mind conceives, his mouth dares to speak
And what his mouth speaks, he knows can be done
He believes this truth even before it's begun
And sometimes love is found where you wouldn't think
With that saving grace found while standing at the brink
The winds of time blow to undo one's tragic pride
And a humbler man learns how it is to take it in stride
Staring into his own life's final setting sun
Until at last, the harper's journey is done
