The Path of Generosity
by Michael Doyle
Standing on a mountain of epiphany
Still, wondering what might come for me
This is no moment of bumper-sticker fame
Some of the things happening are a shame
Reaching out for all the unreached
Bringing the resources so that the gospel is preached
We rise up strong in our connections
And in the promises of our resurrection
Standing up to speak truth to power
Bringing the church to the unchurched in this hour
It brings us back to the top of Mount Kilimanjaro
We forge forward toward a better tomorrow
We glow in the darkness filled with opportunity
The more we give space for the spiritual economy
Of giving that which have available to give
These are the moments by which we best live
Like the feeding of fish and loaves to the five thousand
The Lord teaches in parables that we might understand
Giving all we give with a spirit of right-minded gratitude
That provides the generosity needed with a right attitude
It's a spiritual matter in light of our circumstances
That allows us to give within our provided chances
And to reach satisfaction that allows us to truly give
In return for all the blessings we are given to live
We are to give to others freely and absolutely
Walking our walk with virtuous nobility
Giving offerings of plenty within the Lord's space
Of connected-dots from within our God's embrace
Rather money or time; this is a tithe we must live
Giving in kindness that which we are able to give
10% is next to nothing when we consider we are given more
And realize that with God's plan, there would be no more poor
Instead of destroying life, we need to learn to build
If we are to have the best that life might yield
Teaching our children to dream of all their possibility
So they might learn to see the best regardless of probability
And that despite obstacles, there can be a path of good
When the power of the holy gospel is fully understood
It is not a matter of anything being too complicated
But instead, it is the matter of being God-fated
We start by copying Jesus in what it is we do
Bumping into the scripture in all that we do
And learning to complain less while living out this story
These then are the keys to the Kingdom's glory
