The Devils We Wish We Didn't Know
by Michael Doyle
The NCAA
Was, and is, the Devil
We knew enough to know
A scam for pay
Never on the level
It was for extra coins
Not for any college bowl
Graveyard memories
Dedicated to families
That gave their all
In the name of football
Regardless of broken bones
And broken spirits
For a moment's fame given on loan
Some bricks need to be torn
Down, one by one; uneven and worn
It's tragic how it's played
With concussions gone un-displayed
They claim to make champions
And to give fortune and elusive fame
All for the sake of the football game
Wounded voices in the head
Leave some talking to the dead
Brothers who would still be alive
If they hadn't bought into the jive
They rode until they died
All that is left
Are the tears that have been cried
Guaranteed lies are still lies
The fifty yard line is where it dies
Character is what we do unseen
It tells the worth of each human being
But it's the organizations
That feel they owe no explanations
...That truly do
