The Sabotage of Daily Life

The Sabotage of Daily Life
by Michael Doyle

In the masquerades we play
Lost in ourselves, day after day
The connecting dots bring our losses
Ride the back of our carried crosses

All the unforeseen circumstances
That come from life's dances
As we seek our first and second impressions
While surrendering to passing expressions

Of the little surprises
Of life as it offers its reprises
If we keep our open minds viable
We somehow find life survivable

Stepped-up games lead to Champagne
When we're willing to make changes
Still, the time comes to move on
Even before we know our time is gone

The hands we play come with decay
Because of this, there should be no delay
Breathtaking beauty breeds its devotion
Despite being sabotaged by our own emotions

We are people, and sometimes we lose
It isn't always a matter of what we choose
As time after time, we pay our dues
This is the entirety of life, win or lose
