The Something Better

The Something Better
by Michael Doyle

We all need our person we can go to
It's the heart and soul of me and you
Someone to fit in with who we are
The seventh string on a six-string guitar

We share ourselves molded like clay
To find the love that will forever stay
The laugh that will never leave
Wishing upon stars to magically believe

Speaking as we do from the heart
We come together as if works of art
It seems our souls bring it together
Pushing us beyond to that something better

We worry we will ever find acceptance
Wrapped in anxieties, in need of repentance
It's hard to share what must be received
If we're to go further without feeling deceived

Things in common and things felt different
Are equally weighted and to be held reverent
If these things are to bring us together
As we continue to become that something better

In this world filled with multiple choices
We hold tight to those small voices
The silent prayers as we hold on tight
Hoping this time that we'll get it right

The laugh in your beautiful smile
Suits the moments that make your style
As we walk into the little details
That brings our hearts to focus on what's real

The connections had become all the more
As we sell ourselves what's hidden behind the doors
We find our souls, bringing it together
As we push it forward into that something better
