The Radical Amazement of Life

The Radical Amazement of Life
by Michael Doyle

Waking up this morning, there's no need for guessing
That each day of life is indeed an intricate blessing
With no doubt in my mind, I recognize this wholly
That just the pleasure of another day is something holy

In my life, I have had enough of proof to have enough cause
To believe that life is best lived in honoring God's laws
And never taking pause but to know that it isn't a blunder
If you and I put aside the doubts, living our lives in wonder

It is in keeping these things that we know better than neglect
That we begin to live our days with discipline and self-respect
This then grows the rudiments that provide a sense of dignity
That comes with the increase in our increasing ability

To live our lives in the sense of wonderment that is truly meant
Our purpose must become to live our lives in radical amazement
Gaining by shifting ourselves from self-consciousness to render
All that it means to at last give up ourselves as we surrender

It betters life when we realize our debt and take up gratitude
As our way of living and in doing this gain the right attitude
It's when we let go of perceptions of reality as a "thinghood"
We can smile to ourselves knowing that we've finally understood
