In Pursuit of Great Expectations

In Pursuit of Great Expectations
by Michael Doyle

I love the way you love me
The way that it makes me feel
It helps me find the ability
To make it through and keep things real

Shining like a beacon of light
It's you that gets me through the night
I somehow feel my soul shaking
In that promises that we're making

I know that I'm flying too close to the sun
There is a miracle in what we've done
When I look at you, I know that you're the one
Yes, my love, I know that you're the one

You've given me wings to fly
Even though I don't know quite why
There will be no stopping us now
I know this is the truth of us somehow

It might be hard to explain
How so many struggles can be in vain
There have been tears enough for us all
And memories enough for each of us to recall

I know that I'm flying too close to the sun
There is a miracle in what we've done
When I look at you, I know that you're the one
Yes, my love, I know that you're the one

Heartbroken by the words in my head
So much that cannot be unsaid
These are the times that we are lost without meaning
These are the moments of my soul's undoing

But here it is, we've reached the end
And I'll always love you as my friend
There is that something we both will keep
As we do our best not to weep

I know that I'm flying too close to the sun
There is a miracle in what we've done
When I look at you, I know that you're the one
Yes, my love, I know that you're the one

It's those great expectations that fell apart
As we trip on the landmines of our hearts
We find our forever in the dreams we share
Not in the paper cuts that strip us bare

Then that day comes and we find that someone
That we know will be here for us and struggle is done
These are the memories held quietly in devotion
And your love, my love, is the key to my emotions
