In the End (We Die Alone)

In the End (We Die Alone)
by Michael Doyle

Harsh words are told
Sometimes quietly, sometimes bold
There are a million ways to live your years
But it's best when you free your fears

Ante up to stay in the game
Whatever happened or who is to blame
Getting yourself together
Is the only move to make life better

Hurting yourself is easy enough
That's not a bluff
But living - living is hard
Yet, it remains our best card

There are a lot of troubles to face
And you won't always with grace
There'll be times you won't be proud
Life will at you insistently loud

At times, you'll want to take a pass
It will feel like walking on rusted glass
Still, you'll need to talk your walk
Chin held high without a single balk

Hurting yourself is easy enough
That's not a bluff
But living - living is hard
Yet, it remains our best card

There will be times you walk a desolate mile
Uncertain of how you'll ever fake your smile
You'll hold your chin up to stay above ground
Surprising yourself with what you have found

Loneliness might find you, your only friend
But push comes to shove, it won't end
That is until you call the joker's bluff
It's then you'll find you are quite enough

Hurting yourself is easy enough
That's not a bluff
But living - living is hard
Yet, it remains our best card

We live this thing to our best ability
Sometimes pushing ourselves beyond our capability
Life is life for all its impartiality
We're lucky when we find ourselves to stability

Thanks is given for the grace we're living
Keeping our head above water keeps us breathing
There's a lot to life that needs forgiving
The important thing is that we do keep on living

Hurting yourself is easy enough
That's not a bluff
But living - living is hard
Yet, it remains our best card
