On the Journey of Fatherhood

On the Journey of Fatherhood
by Michael Doyle

Asked about how fatherhood is rated
It has seemed to me somewhat understated
I could not have imagined the journey
That it has been in all of its totality

When you talk about consequences and morality
Fatherhood is the one thing that has me most happy
In all ways, the birth of my beautiful daughters
And their lives after have brought me to be the father

Step by step, mostly who I'd like to be the most
Knowing that they matter most and I don't want to boast
But I think they've taught me lessons I needed to learn
At least, that's what I think and believe that I discern

My heart has become a masterpiece of part of nature
As I have grown, and they have grown, each to mature
Becoming the persons that we are destined to be
Each of them is a superstar, and me? And I'm just Daddy

I carry their pictures where my money used to be
It's the best kind of wealth. I'll never know poverty
My soul is rich and filled with their abundant love
Yes, it's one of the best gifts given from Heaven above

It has taken me a lifetime to learn my parents were right
I'm reminded of this every time that I am hugged tight
Until my last breath, I will be content in the love that's glowing
In the love given and received, always, forever knowing
