Bob Dylan’s Blues

Bob Dylan's Blues
by Michael Doyle

Bob Dylan's tangle was a lot more than blue
Its effect has had a multi-generational hue
His music, writing, and lyrical poetry
Has etched its way into the best of history

Most of us take part in shallow walk-on roles
There are fewer of us for whom the bell tolls
One of a kind, he was blessed by his arrival
To have continued success after his survival

The chimes of music's freedom bring it on home
While Mr. Tambourine Man is better left alone
The blood on the tracks put it all into context
As the younger and older Dylan, each deserves respect

Each has produced dramatic works of poetic expression
That is destiny bound to leave a lasting impression
Somewhere between folk tradition and folk reborn
Electrified to be heard as lives proudly worn
