In the Complexity of This World

In the Complexity of This World
by Michael Doyle

Anger and other toxic emotions
Can linger with all their commotion.
All of these feelings are indwelling,
And are in our control. God willing.

We grow up as boys in the hood,
But the hope is that we grow to be understood.
Each of us finds our own meaning,
Appreciated as we are, simply human beings.

Child or parent, we have opportunities to grow.
It all depends on the depth from which we know
Every step that we have ever walked,
And keep this in mind with the words we've talked.

A snapshot taken tells us where we've been,
In all of our goodness and every sin.
These elements compose the essence of our song,
Taken in harmony, we are where we belong.

Here in the living of tales yet untold,
One dream at a time, life unfolds.
If we only just learn to live out each day,
Our happiness will find its own way.

Even Mr. Rogers wasn't quite a saint,
But a grounding in the Bible removed the taint
Of all the little troubles that come for all.
It's the love of God each of us must recall.

As neighbors, we decide our neighborhood,
Less by design, but in being understood.
It's the lonely feeling that we share.
It brings us joy far beyond what we compare.

The normality of life comes with its feelings,
So many of which could send us spiraling and reeling.
It is these emotions that we learn to transcend,
And we share this in the comfort of our friends.

It's an amazing world filled with many asks.
We go about our tasks wearing many masks.
The masks required to face the challenges unfurled
There is safety in the complexity of the world.
