It’s Not So Funny Now

It's Not So Funny Now
by Michael Doyle

It seems like the truth behind so many stories.
We had to dare the lightning to find the glories.
Yesterday's lessons, we thought would never end,
These were the moments we really needed a friend.

It's really not about what you're deserving,
But they toughen you up so that you can be serving
Out the discipleship that forms the believer.
Hope and faith get us past the worst deceiver.

Well, it's not so funny now,
How we lived through the pain.
We get through it somehow,
Dodging between the falling rain.

The prophets warned us to keep our heads low,
Along the way, we'd learn what to know.
But the clock on the wall was ticking too slow,
We were young and always on the go.

We had a thirst for all the coming living,
Thanks to God for always being forgiving,
Despite our hope, there were too many wrong turns.
I guess that's what it takes us to learn.

Well, it's not so funny now,
How we lived through the pain.
We get through it somehow,
Dodging between the falling rain.

Life is full of learning from the past,
The trouble is that the days move far too fast.
Like a stone thrown, we were born to cast
Setting sail upstream without our mast.

We believed as believers do in faith and hope.
Somehow along the way, we've managed to cope.
Now we are watching our own children running.
We'd love to advise them, but they're busy outgunning.

Well, it's not so funny now,
How we lived through the pain.
We get through it somehow,
Dodging between the falling rain.

They won't listen, so we don't preach.
We'd love a moment to maybe lovingly teach.
It seems they know life is just within reach.
Maybe it's time we relax on life's beach.

There is so much they have to live to learn.
We remember how life taught us to discern.
And we talk to them with eyes full of love.
It's with hopeful prayer we give this to the man above.

Well, it's not so funny now,
How we lived through the pain.
We get through it somehow,
Dodging between the falling rain.
