Under One Star

Under One Star
by Michael Doyle

Damn that cancel culture,
Believing it has a right to nurture
Hatred toward the founders of this land.
I don't think they really understand.

We need to bring hope to tomorrow.
It's time to move past the sorrow.
We need to remember where we've been.
But also thankful for the grace that removes our sin.

Baby, I'm a deeply flawed Christian.
I don't always get it right.
But I can lay my head down on my pillow
Knowing that I've done my best every night.

Take a moment to listen and hear me out.
I've got a heart full of love and a lot of doubt.
I met some success in my significance.
Won't you join me in our magnificence?

It doesn't really matter if we disagree,
Let's put some faith in our controversy.
It doesn't matter the time or season,
Let's put our heads together in reason.

Baby, I'm a deeply flawed Christian.
I don't always get it right.
But I can lay my head down on my pillow
Knowing that I've done my best every night.

There was a time when we understood
What it meant to be good.
On both sides of town,
God was there to be found.

We need to find our way back again
To the time we knew how to be a friend.
Each of us is here to lend a hand.
It's simple when we know how to understand.

Baby, I'm a deeply flawed Christian.
I don't always get it right.
But I can lay my head down on my pillow
Knowing that I've done my best every night.

Sometimes we're right, and sometimes we're wrong.
But each of us has a place to belong.
Like notes played inside life's melody,
Some of us wander off enough to sing harmony.

I sit here before the boughs of my Christmas tree.
Bows, ribbons, and bulbs contribute to the beauty.
They play different roles without drifting far.
All of them, as if aware, they're under one star.

Baby, I'm a deeply flawed Christian.
I don't always get it right.
But I can lay my head down on my pillow
Knowing that I've done my best every night.
