Jacob Given Grace

Jacob Given Grace
by Michael Doyle

In the splendid moments of gratitude,
I am thankful for the right attitude,
That is God's voice that must be heard
To understand the Bible in all that has occurred.

Two people within a womb struggled together,
Throughout life, the generations never get better.
From this stems a long history of sibling rivalry.
This, in turn, has become a war-torn legacy.

Esau would serve Jacob, the younger deceiver.
Yet, from this would come unexpected believers.
God often uses the weak to his greater glory.
It is found throughout the Bible's story.

The story of Esau and Jacob is one of deception.
Yet, by the will of God comes blessing and connection.
These were the deeds that brought about enmity.
Brother against brother; family had become enemies.

To work against this, every parent should work in unity.
This sets the foundation of lifelong familial harmony.
Without this example, it's natural that sibling rivalry
From Cain and Abel forward became sadly legendary.

Instead of friction, we should promote reconciliation
This would bring peace between people and nations.
Living on the warpath has brought a lot of history.
Why humanity doesn't listen to God remains a mystery.

At the Jordan River, God wrestled with Jacob all night,
And he was renamed Israel at the morning's breaking light.
From this came the 12 tribes that found it hard to settle,
But instead of running away, they and we continue to wrestle.

We bring our struggles to God, and wounded, we continue walk,
Shaped by our many wrongs, we conform our walk to our talk.
Through clinging to our faith, we are saved through grace.
This is the Gift given by God to the human race.

The faith in our hearts marks the truth of our start.
We learn to serve our purpose from our healing hearts.
Like Isaac, we must surrender and conform to God's talk
Making straight our stride as we walk Good's holy walk.
