Drifting Away

Drifting Away
by Michael Doyle

Words and deeds form love's foundation.
Miracles of mercy shine in explanation.
The something that anchors all our passion,
Is love's path walked with compassion.

A rack of tequilas sways on a server's tray.
They set in motion hearts ready to play.
Sometimes a little lubrication starts the dance,
And after all, we are here to begin our romance.

Under the disco lights, the beat begins to play.
It won't be long tonight before we both drift away.
There's something about it that moves my soul,
Before you know it, we're lost up in rock ' n ' roll.

The love we have is as deep as it is infinite,
And as our souls touch, we know our love will never quit.
Love's light shines the way into the stars of darkness,
It is this dream that removes life's bitter harshness.

The only love we get to keep is the love we give away,
And the best of true love comes on an unexpected day.
There are a lot of miles in forming life's true love way.
Maybe it takes the strength built for love to stay.

We can't be too timid to give love our best try.
It's the craziness of love, I am not going to lie,
That takes us knocked down on our blue jean knees
And teaches us to catch the joy of love's gentle breeze.

It's all the little moments that give life motion
Filling our hearts with the immensity of our emotion.
Hand in hand in acceptance as we come to understand
That each of us will forever live within love's command.
