Fitting In Comfortably

Fitting In Comfortably
by Michael Doyle

Between bits of laughter, we begin comfortably
In building what may yet become our family.
It isn't so much the jokes but the easy smiles.
They go a long way in logging away the miles.

A sip shared, a song sung, and then we dance.
It becomes the needed entry into our romance.
A blind man's ride makes for a comfortable mess.
But in the end, there is only love to confess.

A kiss at a vineyard sunset gives courage to the man,
Who was once too afraid to do what only a bold man can.
Painting landscapes that belong in a lover's heart,
It whispers with beauty, some loves must never part.

Enter the gorilla who wants to dominate the room,
He's too foolish to know he's building his own doom.
To be rude and macho is a charade of the impressive.
And yet he wonders why he's seen as regressive.

Some folks can't help but be endlessly competitive,
Despite losing what's important to the point, it's repetitive.
Just one more time, let's place that bet.
Winner takes all, we're not allowed to forget.

A kiss at a vineyard sunset gives courage to the man,
Who was once too afraid to do what only a bold man can.
Painting landscapes that belong in a lover's heart,
It whispers with beauty, some loves must never part.

With wrong words left silently unspoken,
Tears once again fall for hearts that are broken.
What was comfortably falling in place is gone
As we fade back, glancing at stars wished upon.

It's okay not to be okay when you're not okay,
I think I heard someone wise put it this way.
Honesty is its own masterpiece of bravado
Never giving up and growing out of the shadows.

A kiss at a vineyard sunset gives courage to the man,
Who was once too afraid to do what only a bold man can.
Painting landscapes that belong in a lover's heart,
It whispers with beauty, some loves must never part.

What you can do is what you would do to never surrender,
Finds its way back to a love that is warm and tender.
A near-defeated lover finds a song yet to be sung,
It is the bravest moment to which he had decidedly clung.

A wounded heart finds a love song to sing fortissimo
To tell the one he loves that he will never let her go.
And as she turns to quietly slip into the night and away,
His lips cannot quite form the words asking her to stay.

A kiss at a vineyard sunset gives courage to the man,
Who was once too afraid to do what only a bold man can.
Painting landscapes that belong in a lover's heart,
It whispers with beauty, some loves must never part.

With all the words and miracles of blessings said,
There were still walking dreams shining in the lover's head.
Trust that love is meant to be cherished and held onto,
A lover knows that this much of the fairytale is true.

It's our mistakes that teach us how and who to truly love.
It's as if guided from our Lord in hallowed Heaven above.
There's something there in your beautiful photograph.
I sit here shaking my head, a whisper becomes our laugh.

A kiss at a vineyard sunset gives courage to the man,
Who was once too afraid to do what only a bold man can.
Painting landscapes that belong in a lover's heart,
It whispers with beauty, some loves must never part.
