Belonging To the Father

Belonging To the Father
by Michael Doyle

The scriptures are perhaps the most influential
Words ever written, and arguably the most beneficial.
As its pages have shaped the best of humanity's culture,
It has been a book of controversy and of nurture.

The Bible's pages have divided time's passage itself,
As its teachings have moved along God's holy shelf.
In understanding the words, context is everything,
And without this, words can be messy and mean nothing.

It's in understanding the gist of every intended meaning
That we get to know the intentions behind our very being.
Through this, we come to face our God in our experience,
In this, we learn the how and whys behind our obedience.

The Lord's Prayer opens into a complex house of light.
First-century Jews understood why this must be right.
Their core beliefs serve our Father in heaven above
And had strong contextual meaning beyond merely love.

There is a bond between strands of earthly relationships,
And all of the force behind our faith's worship.
Mudbricks weigh heavily, with their ingredients packed well
If they are to stand the tests of time and prevail.

A lifetime's craft learned was spent in slavery.
It teaches a lot about the lives lost to history.
Ancient Egypt was Israel's bondage and restriction.
God heard His people's cry in generational friction.

Moses told Pharaoh to let His son free for him to go,
And in doing this, God as our Father began to show.
Sheep and goats shepherded by Moses lived unbroken,
Until God, as a burning bush, had majestically spoken.

God's name was given as whatever will be, shall be.
We see our Father's power, the end of slavery.
This is the cycle of redemption throughout history,
In His children's need, the Father removed the mystery.
