She Learns To Survive

She Learns To Survive
by Michael Doyle

To her, I'm her father
As I watch my daughter
Walking alone in the night
She's always been my light

But it wasn't always this way
She's haunted by the day
These moments hidden inside
Behind her fragile pride

He took her innocence
I've seen it in her eyes
The feeling is so intense
I've felt her agonize

She hides it inside
Because she's afraid to confide
All those times that she's cried
Alone in her heart wish she could hide

She almost took her life that night
Feeling abandoned and in total fright
Fighting the torment inside her head
And.. I held her hand in mine to fight off her dread

She didn't need to talk, I understood
As maybe only a loving father could
Step[-by-step, she's to walk in life again
I walk beside her and hold her when...

She remembers how he took her innocence
The look on her face is scared and intense
I see the meaning in her beautiful sad eyes
As she tries to be brave though she agonizes

Only in these past few years
I've seen her blossom despite her tears
Feeling she's worthy of love and she knows
I smile softly as she steps forward to grow

Even in the darkest depth of night
She knows she's a child of the light
I watch as the strength returns and her life unfolds
I tell her I that I love her; she knows before she's told

The light in the end still holds her innocence
She has moved past his intended offense
And I see new meaning in her powerful eyes
As her walk becomes bolder and the past looses its ties

First Principles: If the Laws Are To Be Trampled Upon With Impunity, and A Minority Is To Dictate To the Majority, There Is An End Put At One Stroke To Republican Government

“If the laws are to be so trampled upon with impunity, and a minority is to dictate to the majority, there is an end put at one stroke to republican government, and nothing but anarchy and confusion is to be expected thereafter.” – George Washington

That I Might Be of Service

That I Might Be of Service
by Michael Doyle

Jesus is the holy and sacred name
Of the one who took away my shame
Powerful enough to break every chain
Refreshing my life like the pouring rain

Every day begins on my knees
Talking to God who hears my pleas
Through they're not needed in this conversation
His holiness overcomes all devastation

He is worthy of every song
And I know where I belong
With every breath that I take
My savior knows and forgives every mistake

In wonder, I look toward the skies
Believing and loving His sight in my eyes
I know that He died to save sinners like me
He opened my eyes to the living possibility

That maybe I might be of service
And so I live to do His purpose
He is worthy of every song that I sing
As I put my trust in each new day He brings

First Principles: Liberty Consists In the Freedom To Do Everything Which Injures No One Else

“Liberty consists in the freedom to do everything which injures no one else; hence the exercise of the natural rights of each man has no limits except those which assure to the other members of the society the enjoyment of the same rights.” – Marquis de Lafayette

History Dignifies the Presidents

History Dignifies the Presidents
by Michael Doyle

On this Presidents Day, a few comments are deserved
As we look back on nation as it is preserved
True to the faith of our republic's sovereignty
Is the struggle to keep our nation's dignity

Our story is told across America with each sunrise
That we are here today because of those more wise
Some which of which have been known to take up residence
In a White House as our nation's best presidents

Unto this present day, often from a well-shaken past,
There have been concerns that we may not last
And still we are and still we will always continue to be
That beacon of light on the hill of our shining on our history

However imperfect, though we have come to constant compromise
Taking a step back from criticism to truly begin to analyze
We find our strength has come from persons of integrity
Who taken that solemn oath as president to ensure our legacy

Carries on across our nation and even world wide
Giant steps, sometimes stumbled, but with cause and pride
This is a story of races and thoughts across our territory
Sometimes these conflict but all are part of our history

As we take our best look into what will become our future
We also look to the past to decide which parts we will nurture
And braver men than you and I take the mantle of the presidency
And swear to uphold our ideals within their great dignity

These men will come to include a woman some soonish day
But all of them have led our nation forward in their best way
And so doing they are worthy of our acknowledge respect
May we keep each of their memories absent any deep regret

But for those who were taken before their time, much too soon
As bullets and death binds us under that same wise old moon
Let us remember this Presidents Day with hats over hearts
As we have since barely after our great nation had her start

First Principles: Sensible of the Importance of Christian Piety and Virtue To the Order and Happiness of A State, I Cannot But Earnestly Commend To You Every Measure For Their Support and Encouragement

“Sensible of the importance of Christian piety and virtue to the order and happiness of a state, I cannot but earnestly commend to you every measure for their support and encouragement … Manners, by which not only the freedom, but the very existence of the republics, are greatly affected, depend much upon the public institutions of religion and the good education of youth; in both these instances our fathers laid wise foundations, for which their posterity have had reason to bless their memory.” – John Hancock
