The Quiet Colors

The Quiet Colors
by Michael Doyle

As the quiet colors
Of the midnight hour
Starts to come to close
As the quiet colors
Of the midnight hour
Starts to come to close

I feel as lonely as the pain inside
Tortured to my soul, and I cannot hide
I pray to the Lord above that I be strong enough
This time, I feel Satan calling my bluff

They can pull all the teeth from my head
And still, I stand and am not dead
I have never felt such deep, overwhelming pain
And still, I have no right to complain

As the quiet colors
Of the midnight hour
Starts to come to close
As the quiet colors
Of the midnight hour
Starts to come to close

Sometimes, I feel like Job in his misery
Then I realize I'm confusing my history
I am reminded of all the wrong I have done
As I hang on my cross, I am nobody's son

The strings are pulled and broken in my soul
How much is too much in damaged control
I'm drowning here, quietly reaching above water
Quietly calling out, abandoned by my Father

As the quiet colors
Of the midnight hour
Starts to come to close
As the quiet colors
Of the midnight hour
Starts to come to close

When you look into my eyes, tell me, do you see
I ask you for mercy because I no longer know me
This thing going on is killing me from the inside
The pain that I feel leaves me nowhere to hide

I hang from my broken cross, feeling crucified
While braver warriors tell me I've not even tried
The tears from my heart roll down my battered face
The rot of my soul is its only remaining trace

As the quiet colors
Of the midnight hour
Starts to come to close
As the quiet colors
Of the midnight hour
Starts to come to close

...The quiet colors bleed

Nature and Dignity Earned

Nature and Dignity Earned
by Michael Doyle

There's a quiet in nature
That you won't find in the city
It helps you to think and mature
Learning what is and isn't pretty

This is especially true of the soul
As you learn the value of self-control
Being where you must truly observe
Gives you the outcome that you deserve

The things we wish for mostly come true
However, that is meant for me and you
Or, at least, the truth is felt in traces
Felt deep within as we step into places

That tells us the truth of who we are
As we keep our eyes on the paths and the stars
That leads us one way or another to see
Who exactly we were born to be

We mostly can't help what happens by chance
But we do decide what we make of each circumstance
These are the critical moments that we live
And nature teaches us what we can give

Every misplaced step has a lesson that we learn
Until we become wise enough to amply discern
All that we can as we walk our truth with humility
Grace provides us the way out with our dignity

However much it is that we initially start
Finding ourselves face-to-face within our hearts
With the truths that nature has readily shown
While adding on experiences needed to be known

Gradually, the potential dangers fade away
While places and imprints of beauty stay
When we master ourselves, we become truly free
Nature teaches us to live our lives with dignity

What Our God Does

What Our God Does
by Michael Doyle

Looking at what God has done
We become baptized in the Son
The details have some meaning
In burying the wrong of our being

Stepping into being taken into a new life
We take on the peace by putting away strife
Searching for meaning in the Word of The Book
We find in Acts how to walk our new look

The early church faced down a few odds
It was a bumpy path in following God
Saul became Paul to lead from being an enemy
Showing how a soul turns into a hero to the contrary

Despite Paul's wrong reasons, God gets it right
Turning Saul to His purposes with a blinding light
Ananias healed Paul into God's chosen instrument
Rendering deadly intentions to the love of God's intent

It was, as it often is, a radical expression of grace
As Paul rose to the occasion and took his rightful place
Acting with audacious purpose, Paul made his life real
As the bearer of the Good News gifted with Christian zeal

Faith is demanded of all of us to our very last breath
This is how the victory of Christ defies the finality of death
This is the ministry that provides the path to set us free
As we face the contest and accept the righteousness of ministry

Though the Earth's foundation might tremble and shake
It's important not to be taken as we might be mistaken
In my spirit, it is well to put on the ways of glory
That are often shown in illustrating God's holy story

Every life is filled with challenges and takes its hits
But as we are redeemed, we are given the Holy Spirit
And as we take the spirit on, we take on a victor's mentality
Until it shines our purposes as part of God's instrumentality

Worship reminds us of the relationship of God's divinity
As we are trained toward letting love and trust be our theology
Through our praise and prayers, we faithfully possess the keys
As we put on Godly ways shared to share and to live to please

Putting off the shackles of our dirty little sins
We are shaken to and shaped into goodness once again
Let's remember not to lose ourselves to darkness and fear
And be reminded always, that where we are God is also here

First Principles: The Sacred Rights of Mankind Are Not To Be Rummage For, Among Old Parchments, Or Musty Records…They Are Written…By the Hand of the Divinity

“The sacred rights of mankind are not to be rummaged for, among old parchments, or musty records. They are written, as with a sun beam, in the whole volume of human nature, by the hand of the divinity itself; and can never be erased or obscured by mortal power.” – Alexander Hamilton (1775)

Joyful Contemplation

Joyful Contemplation
by Michael Doyle

Looking back on times I've had
I rejoice and find myself glad
I'm certain of things I believe
And I stand ready to receive

Knowing that God is wise and strong
And I am often weak and often wrong
I bless God's name with my praise
And will always do so in my days

Through the power of the Holy Spirit
I will exceed my mortal limits
Knowing that God is found in this place
And seeking the joy of the Lord to embrace

Since my redemption
I've not been the same
Here in my joyous contemplation
I will always praise His name
