Certainty Grows

Certainty Grows
by Michael Doyle

There is a certainty felt 100%
I believe in the you this represents
These are the keys of responsibility
That validate our sense of security

Letting the differences build our memories
I know that you and I know no urgencies
As we float our lives together into place
We know this love by its numbered traces

The waves resound as they crash on the shore
While each kiss between begs for a little more
A look tells us we fit smoothly into our places
And the love we feel is written on our faces

It's a natural thing, as we've quietly understood
Confident as we are side by side feeling good
It's a beautiful thing, how it is that simply fit
Like a walk under the moonlight, we'll never forget

All the fickle challenges come to be met and overcome
As king and queen, we fortify the strength of our kingdom
Heartbeat-by-heartbeat, we know, combined together
There is no chance our world can be any sort of better

First Principles: This Balance Between the National and State Governments Ought To Be Dwelt On With Peculiar Attention, As It Is Of the Utmost Importance

“This balance between the National and State governments ought to be dwelt on with peculiar attention, as it is of the utmost importance. It forms a double security to the people. If one encroaches on their rights they will find a powerful protection in the other. Indeed, they will both be prevented from overpassing their constitutional limits by a certain rivalship, which will ever subsist between them.” —Alexander Hamilton (1788)

The Quiet Colors

The Quiet Colors
by Michael Doyle

As the quiet colors
Of the midnight hour
Starts to come to close
As the quiet colors
Of the midnight hour
Starts to come to close

I feel as lonely as the pain inside
Tortured to my soul, and I cannot hide
I pray to the Lord above that I be strong enough
This time, I feel Satan calling my bluff

They can pull all the teeth from my head
And still, I stand and am not dead
I have never felt such deep, overwhelming pain
And still, I have no right to complain

As the quiet colors
Of the midnight hour
Starts to come to close
As the quiet colors
Of the midnight hour
Starts to come to close

Sometimes, I feel like Job in his misery
Then I realize I'm confusing my history
I am reminded of all the wrong I have done
As I hang on my cross, I am nobody's son

The strings are pulled and broken in my soul
How much is too much in damaged control
I'm drowning here, quietly reaching above water
Quietly calling out, abandoned by my Father

As the quiet colors
Of the midnight hour
Starts to come to close
As the quiet colors
Of the midnight hour
Starts to come to close

When you look into my eyes, tell me, do you see
I ask you for mercy because I no longer know me
This thing going on is killing me from the inside
The pain that I feel leaves me nowhere to hide

I hang from my broken cross, feeling crucified
While braver warriors tell me I've not even tried
The tears from my heart roll down my battered face
The rot of my soul is its only remaining trace

As the quiet colors
Of the midnight hour
Starts to come to close
As the quiet colors
Of the midnight hour
Starts to come to close

...The quiet colors bleed

Nature and Dignity Earned

Nature and Dignity Earned
by Michael Doyle

There's a quiet in nature
That you won't find in the city
It helps you to think and mature
Learning what is and isn't pretty

This is especially true of the soul
As you learn the value of self-control
Being where you must truly observe
Gives you the outcome that you deserve

The things we wish for mostly come true
However, that is meant for me and you
Or, at least, the truth is felt in traces
Felt deep within as we step into places

That tells us the truth of who we are
As we keep our eyes on the paths and the stars
That leads us one way or another to see
Who exactly we were born to be

We mostly can't help what happens by chance
But we do decide what we make of each circumstance
These are the critical moments that we live
And nature teaches us what we can give

Every misplaced step has a lesson that we learn
Until we become wise enough to amply discern
All that we can as we walk our truth with humility
Grace provides us the way out with our dignity

However much it is that we initially start
Finding ourselves face-to-face within our hearts
With the truths that nature has readily shown
While adding on experiences needed to be known

Gradually, the potential dangers fade away
While places and imprints of beauty stay
When we master ourselves, we become truly free
Nature teaches us to live our lives with dignity
