An Enduring Contemplation of Pain
by Michael Doyle
The things endured on that Day of Pain
Would drive most of us beyond insane
360 strikes with a nail-ended whip
Would be enough to make anyone lose grip
Next the crucifixion with its degradation
Was a sorrowful way to suffer asphyxiation
In atonement, Jesus took on our mortal sins
It’s almost beyond belief to be suffered and then
Not His but God the Father’s will was done
As God looked on the suffering of His only son
From this, we know that Christ understands pain
There is really nothing left for us to explain
He found, as we find, that friends in their essence
Bring us needed comfort through their presence
Isolation only make our problems so much worse
This should be evident without exploring the verses
Pain is not to be sucked-in but openly expressed
We let it out as burdens shared and not repressed
In this, we love others as we love ourselves
Bringing the comfort that is not found on shelves
It’s the small group comfort found home by home
That are essential to help us know we’re not alone
The depth of pain is only felt by God as understood
Reaching out in our pain in prayer and made good
Even when falling face down on the barren ground
We pray to Abba the Father everywhere he’s found
In the worse days of our worst sense of darkest pain
We call on our heavenly father, simple and plain
No cup of suffering is drunk alone as we’re aching
Up to the point where we feel that we are breaking
Knowing that God can do everything we complain
Has afflicted us, our trusted Father makes it plain
Knowing that God knows what really is the best
The pain we feel will not be more than the test
That God will get us through until our last breath
The doubt and confusion is eased until our death
Nails did not hold Christ to His cross, but God’s love
The laws fulfilled in atonement as in Heaven above
His mission was to pay the debts that we all owe
For the love of admission to Heaven as we know
Second thoughts are ot worth the time to think
Whatever is done with recriminations at the brink
It comes down to the difficulty of trust over fear
This faith is the thing we need to persevere
Life felt hard, hits hard and leave us in doubt
Wondering what it is that it’s all really about
We fall to pieces due to that is really illusion
Is strikes at us deep as we are lost in confusion
In these times, we all tend to lose our way
Giving up faith in the these times of Saturday
We tend to turn our back on the God who persists
Despite questioning why such pain exists
These are the complex times without hesitation
Questioning God’s wisdom about our destination
Our world turns to ashes, but we hold the premise
That we, fallen humanity, can rely on the promise
The anguish is felt to the very core of our soul
Until we learn to let go and give God the control
Let no one, even ourselves, rob us from happiness
Its all part of the plan that leads to our bliss
Hold on the promises that God gives us holds
Claiming His truth as we watch our lives unfold
We lose our way and fall into scattered worry
Being anxious and feeling life is in too much hurry
7000 promises are found in that old black book
Take a chance, open it up and take yourself a look
Though it is that even our God knows true sorrow
If we hold onto His hand we’ll find good tomorrow
Hang on and hold on to the promises through pain
This is the one truth that will not prove itself vain
To all who mourn, there will be beauty from ashes
Despite however many times we feel life’s lashes
There is praise to be found despite our mourning
We pass through the darkness until its morning
Please hold on tight to the promises of light
However dark we feel we must quietly hold tight
The Scream can seem the way that we live
But it’s our Father’s loving promises that forgive
Us into knowing that we will never be forsaken
No matter how deeply our souls might be shaking
God’s home is our home in all that we see and do
God has the power that move beyond me and you
As we set our sights on the death of crucifixion
We must also know that afterwards i resurrection
God’s purposes will bring us through our feelings
However much it is that we seem to be reeling
Never give up and never surrender to darkness
Despite whatever it is that has brought us darkness
God will be with us throughout whatever difficulty
This kind of love is the core of our deep theology
Joy and victory is found in believing in that Sunday
The morning that we knew was coming anyway
The Son rose and shined on His new day
And this promise makes us bold in every way
We come to realize our way to that hour
As we rely on God’s salvation in His power
Believe in Christ and we will live yet again
This is the truth of the power in our friend
We only see what it is that are able to see
Christ is the life that gives us joyful eternity
Confessing with our mouth that Jesus is the way
And believing in our hearts, He was raised that day
You, too, will find your true path of salvation
It’s promised that heaven then is our destination

Look a little deeper than the surface with you contemplate these two songs to bring you different but not entirely inaccurate perspectives on Jesus and how His sacrifice brought us all the opportunity for atonement, ultimately our salvation!

Coming To Peace With the Questions
by Michael Doyle
Whatever might be said as final proclamation
One way or another about Jesus' divination
It can't fail to be noted, He changed civilization
Regardless of any attempts at miseducation
Jesus came to fulfill, and not overturn Judaism
From this arose a future growing from optimism
Starting from the day Jesus arose from perceived death
His divinity was spoken into being with Godly breath
This crucifixion was an atonement given to all,
As was attested by the Apostles, including Paul
Jews and Gentiles sought to follow His holy ways
Both human and divine, the Church comes from this day
Exponential growth led to Christian dominance
Within a few centuries, this increase had significance
Without this, none of coming history would have shown
This essential fact cannot ever be considered overblown
Two billion Christians live in our modern-day
This impacts us all in every sort of significant way
This may be seen accurately as a matter of perception
But there's nothing to it that is, in any way, deception
Our world remains transformed by this critical truth
Even for those who've attempted to ignore it from their youth
Historic Jesus was written about so that we might learn
The good and the truth that might or may be discerned
From the earliest days, there's been much diversity
In beliefs and perceptions, and with no one university
To say which is which and which is exactly not
This is true, however, desperately truth is sought
Paul's letter to the Galatians points to the resurrection
There is no need for Jewish conversion points out in correction
Some Corinthians believed Christians as a completed new creation
But Paul correctly saw existing sin as needing further perfection
There were and are many questions spoken of in controversy
There were and are profound differences without heresy
It's okay to hold these questions up to our examination
It is righteous to discuss things needing explanation
All of this led to a 4th-century confluence of debates
These sough conforming creeds to replace love for seeds of hate
The Nicene Creed was established to set the standard of belief
This has brought Christian happiness and given us relief
From those preceding struggles that had brought us strife
It pointed to conformed Christianity, and a more peaceful life
On this present Easter Day, let us learn something from this
It's better to love one another than to be betrayed with a kiss

Happy Death Day!
by Michael Doyle
Splitting hangover starts the day
Again and again in instant replay
You're certain you have been here before
From what's seen, you don't need thinking any more
Despite appearances, you won't feel better tomorrow
Your two choices are either fear or sorrow
As life grinds you down to your last breath
This day is a celebration of your belated death
Happy Death Day!
Happy Death Day!
If you're feeling lucky, you've missed
The invitation that leaves you kissed
Happy Death Day!
Happy Death Day!
You keep on searching behind the curtains
But this life will only keep you hurting
The pain you feel is caused by yourself
You won't find the answers on any shelf
With what you've been through, you should be dead
This day keeps running on through your head
It's like an alley of broken dreams
Your sanity is coming apart at its seams
It's that universal idiocy of equilibrium
That becomes its own disordered delirium
Happy Death Day!
Happy Death Day!
If you're feeling lucky, you've missed
The invitation that leaves you kissed
Happy Death Day!
Happy Death Day!
You keep on searching behind the curtains
But this life will only keep you hurting
