Have you hugged your veterans today? Trust me, we appreciate it!

To Be A Veteran Is...

I 
    And so many of my sisters 
           and brothers 
We
    Signed our names to the blank check
           that we would serve for the others

Who make up the citizenry of our nation
In our ceaseless dedication
Living up to the best of our aspirations
That made up the causes of our inspiration

Countless miles
      Marching to destinations we didn't know
Following the orders
       Of those above, to obediently go
Forward to serve and put our lives on the line
       Inching our way through landmines
            and toward necessary victories

Needed in the name of
        Freedom and liberty
           Whatever was called for from me
I would obediently give
        That others might live
            The better life promised by this nation

Whatever the conditions
        Rain or cold
           We served this nation's ideals
Doing what we were told
        That the world might be a better place
            Unflinching regardless of what we came to face

Always
     Living for that better tomorrow
         That would replace dreams for sorrow
All our given days
     Dedicated to the American Dreams
          We were sold on behalf of our fellow human beings

Though it was that we did not always fully agree
Our full hearts served and perished if it was to be
Giving our all on behalf freedom's ideals obediently
Each of us willing to give our everything unselfishly

Happy Birthday U.S. Marine Corps!

On November 10, 1775, the U.S. Marine Corps was born at Tun Tavern as the Continental Marines. Although, after the Revolutionary War ended, the U.S. Navy and the Marine Corps were disbanded for a time, they were quickly reestablished on July 11, 1798, by then President John Adams.

Aloha Promises wishes all Marines presently active or no longer enlisted a very happy birthday and salutes you for your service on behalf of the United States!

Other Side of Hell

Other Side of Hell

This isn't meant to discourage
But sometimes, true courage
Is found on the other side of Hell
When your eyes have seen enough to dispel

Any notion that peace can be found
Through the taking of lives in war
And when you've chased this truth around
Enough to know it can't be ignored anymore

There's been one bullet too many
And suddenly, you need to find rest
This isn't a multiple choice or an "any"
Answer that best completes this test

The plunked, discordant chords
Played through life's battered windows
Sometimes, it cuts deeper than swords
And reveals a soul formed inside the shadows

It's a lonesome trail to be on this road
As we find ourselves in our reflection
It's the story to be repeated as it is told
That most often, war is man's worst affliction

It is a sickened heart that bleeds
With every drop bearing the seeds
That plant this sacred cause of sorrow
Knowing that war will come yet again tomorrow

Every true veteran dreads this fact
That the power lies in the hands that do not fight
False bravado at the expense of others is an act
That does not stand the test of first light

Wandering In the Night

Weary souls wandering in the night
In need of a healing light
We are not ever truly alone
Thanking God, we are not on our own

We are unburdened from bitterness
Our saved souls have felt the tenderness
Walking each moment in our gratitude
We keep the path of the right attitude

Knowing that Hell has lost yet another one
As each of us comes to be set free
Though we know our journey is not done
God has come into our lives and set us free

Pushing on to the very end
We know that Christ is our God and friend
Loving us in a million ways
As He walks beside us through our days

God is great, and He is good
In all instances, it is understood
From childhood to our final days
He alone is worthy of our holy praise

Cumberland Falls

Cumberland Falls

Internet sites, articles, and word of mouth
Has Cumberland Falls as the Niagara of the South
And though we haven't made it to see the moonbow
We have been there to see the gentle waters flow

The Cumberland River's water ripples over the falls
As something beautiful to behold, but not that tall
It's a record of time that unfolds before the eyes
And seems all the more majestic just after sunrise

Giant boulders are all that tame this water
As we looked on it, two daughters and their father
We wondered at the changes come and gone
As the river forged its path to there and further beyond

Smoothly polished and roughly passed
The river flows on with a mark that will last
Its impression made on the Daniel Boone National Forest
Is an impression that lives up as promised

One day the girls and I will see that moonbow
Under a full moon's light, above the waterflow
And it will remind us of promises made and kept
Pinkies crossed, and sometime after many nights slept
