The Freedom Agenda

Freedom Gospel Church -Listening to the Good News
The Freedom Agenda
by Michael Doyle

I read the headlines to my great consternation
That Newsome and others would change our constitution
The thoughts of over my dead body come to mind
It's time we leave such foolish thoughts behind

It's not enough to simply win these elections
But we must help head America in the right direction
Presently, there is a great need for course correction
That wouldn't escape a blind man's detection

Some of us are Christians, conservatives, and then republican
And as such we seek the policies right for all Americans
Big government and big business have locked arms in the attack
Taking our freedoms away to the point they won't come back

Liberal policies are a disaster for the course of this nation
The extent of this disaster almost defies rational explanation
While our borders are almost nonexistent and energy is a crisis
That is manmade, while Bidenomics has inflated all prices

While our nation's strength has been weakened and even broken
To the crying point of shame that leaves enemies outspoken
This is a time when our students need the best of education
And instead receive a blanketing, grievous indoctrination

Unvarnished truth can be seen plainly through the nation
Where the pain felt by the People is openly seen for inspection
Our freedoms and our way of life are held at knifepoint
By spurious election procedures by those who self-anoint

Holding themselves out as somehow the elite over the masses
While they burn our cities down into a pile of ashes
Smoldering under policies that work less than might be desired
It's as if this is their hope like haters of America inspired

And we the People know that it is up to us to push back strong
To strive for the right rather than be saddled with the wrong
God's timing comes day to the day after each election day
When we must set in motion the path back to the American way

Returning our nation to the first principles of the founding
And finding America persistent and patiently rebounding
It was these sets of ideals that set America's prosperity
And it is for our children we must fight for this legacy

America's heritage of freedom works if we will only let it
These are not just words but truth and we must not forget it
Everyday under the tyranny of Biden provides us with evidence
That, indeed, the fight for ideas and ideals have consequence

The Bible teaches that where vision is missing, people perish
Understanding this key underlies the America that I cherish
The path ahead needs it vision to be one of open articulation
If we are to strive forward for the good of our freeborn nation

This vision must always be grounded in our highest set of ideals
If we are to make our best efforts fruitful and faithfully real
Now more than ever we must decide who it is we are and will be
And then approach these values with compassion and quite ably

With this in mind we can find our way to much needed liberty
Bringing together the best virtues held within our integrity
These are the questions that lead us to fight for this victory
Grounded with determination and quiet, steady, dignity

Thought For the Day: Without Justice Being Freely, Fully, and Impartially Administered, Neither Our Persons, Nor Our Rights, Not Our Property, Can Be Protected

“Without justice being freely, fully, and impartially administered, neither our persons, nor our rights, nor our property, can be protected. And if these, or either of them, are regulated by no certain laws, and are subject to no certain principles, and are held by no certain tenure, and are redressed, when violated, by no certain remedies, society fails of all its value; and men may as well return to a state of savage and barbarous independence.”– Joseph Story, Commentaries on the Constitution, 1833

“No man can study the movement of modern civilization from an impartial standpoint and not realize that Christianity, and the spread of Christianity, are the basis of hope of modern civilization in the growth of popular self government.” – William H. Thought For the Day: It Is Self-Evident That Language Has Not Bled To Death Through Change

“Prolonged study of the English language leaves me with a conviction that nearly all the linguistic tendencies of the present day have been displayed in earlier centuries, and it is self-evident that the language has not bled to death through change. Vulgarity finds its antidote; old crudities become softened with time. Distinctions, both those that are useful and those that are burdensome, flourish and die, reflourish and die again.” – Robert W. Burchfield, lexicographer (1923-2004)

Puer Aeternus

Neverland - Shadow's Play
Puer Aeternus
by Michael Doyle

It seems that from out of nowhere subtle
There's an argument that has no rebuttal
That all of my desire for the highest risk
Has passed my logic by walking tall and brisk

My life had always been fairly straight and narrrow
But there it is, plainer than all the shadows
The archetypes crawled across from Greek mythology
To find their way into what passes for psychology

And something screams from the collective dreams
That are tied together in the universe's seams
It might be seen as the things parenthetical
That the experts pass off as somehow analytical

There it is, as I look in the mirror, revealed to see
That Cronus has taken my place, as I can clearly see
I have lived a life that could be described as provisional
Coveting freedom, however, it might seem as conditional

Like Peter Pan, I find restrictions somewhat intolerable
Time's passages are, at times, simply insufferable
The descent, the search, the ascent of Eleusinian mysteries
Were in this life of my Iacchus, merely personal history

The shadow of the puer is Hook, who urges Peter to mature
It is that thing of how life happens as we nurture
The finer points of maturity which exceed the divine child
Who only wishes to play and find joy in everything wild

In this, we find the Metamorphoses serve for moral reflection
That might otherwise evade the passerby's casual detection
Finely worked as they are into the tales that we oft repeat
In the divine comedy we live too often as our life completes

Peter and Wendy are the classic tale of a doomed relationship
One narcissistically seeks only freedom and cannot come to grip
With the things of commitment that bring about stability
Wendy needs more than fleeting affection for life's acceptability

It's now or Neverland, filled with childlike wonder and naivety
Such are the paths of modern life in all of its great complexity
Euphoric experiences seek pleasure to put aside and to forget
All those grown up things that lead to heartstrings and regret

Once upon a time is more than for fairy tales in their expression
The hurt that binds is the hurt that too often leads to depression
Maybe what Peter sought was to avoid his emotional disintegration
That came from being a lost boy, alone with his deep desperation?

Nurture that inner child that we might each escape the empty shell
But do not stagnate in blocking development like a personal Hell
All of us have known some degree of bullying producing its trauma
There are difficult passages but what's life without its drama?

First Principles: There Exists In the Economy and the Course of Nature, An Indissoluble Union Between Virtue and Happiness…and the Solid Rewards of Public Prosperity and Felicity

“There exists in the economy and course of nature, an indissoluble union between virtue and happiness; between duty and advantage; between the genuine maxims of an honest and magnanimous policy, and the solid rewards of public prosperity and felicity.” – George Washington (1789)

Thought For the Day: The Two Words “Information” and “Communication” Are Often Used Interchangeably, But They Signify Quite Different Things. Information Is Giving Out; Communication Is Getting Through

Thought For the Day: The Whole Aim of Practical Politics Is To Keep the Populace In A Continual State of Alarm (and Hence Clamorous To Be Led To Safety)

“The whole aim of practical politics is to keep the populace in a continual state of alarm (and hence clamorous to be led to safety) by menacing them with an endless series of hobgoblins, all of them imaginary.” – H. L. Mencken

First Principles: The Crisis Is Arrived When We Must Assert Our Rights, Or Submit To Every Imposition, That Can Be Heaped Upon Us

“The crisis is arrived when we must assert our rights, or submit to every imposition, that can be heaped upon us, till custom and use shall make us as tame and abject slaves.” – George Washington (1774)
