All the Broken Pieces
by Michael Doyle
When our sanity has turned to treason,
We make up every kind of reason.
It seems like our life is by misconception,
When we fall for our own self-deceptions.
It's next to tragic applied to our family,
In the conflicts between you and me.
We forgetfully get lost in the sorrow
We had to overcome for our better tomorrows.
We forget the kindnesses of yesterday,
All that has been given becomes thrown away.
Instead of what once felt like a fantasy,
We convince ourselves that we bear the worst misery.
All the broken pieces are revealed.
There's no need for it to be concealed.
The broken bits are part of the story
That steep our lives in transformative glory.
All of life can be given due dignity
When it's given fundamental decency.
These are the things worth fighting for,
The choices of love become valuable all the more.
It's horrid how things can be made to be seen,
As if the many parts of a shattered dream.
Though once the sheen of beauty shone,
When given to the jackals, the shine is soon gone.
Life held in its intended hug can be a fairytale
Where even in the rains, tender joy prevails.
Let's dance forever with the right attitude.
Grace and generosity are borne in our gratitude.
Dreamers together fight the harshness united
Where prayed for miracles are derided.
But somehow they still happen every day.
This is the beauty of gratitude's way.

A Song of Testimony
by Michael Doyle
By His breath, I learned how to breathe,
Giving my love to His truth and no longer deceived.
I stand with my hands stretched to Heaven above.
I've put away the weakness of hate for God's love.
My heart beats in time with God's song.
I only wonder why it took this long.
I walked into the Lord's path through grace,
With the love of God shining on my face.
I had put my faith in learning to be tough
Only to find it would never be enough.
Lying wounded in a deadman's bed,
Thoughts of Jesus entered my battered head.
Praying to an unknown God, I cried,
Having given up on all else I had tried.
Step by step, I've found my life revived.
Thanks to God's love, I survived.
This wasn't a time of proverbial one-and-done,
I turned my life over to the Father and the Son.
Asking to be God's servant in my broken heart,
I only hope I can somehow live up to my part.

Victory Stride
by Michael Doyle
When Jesus called my name
His gospel I came to proclaim.
Broken chains gave me my freedom
And now I serve His kingdom.
I had been lost in the harshness
Wanting to outpower the darkness.
But I finally got it right
When I walked into the light.
A wretched soul, He did save
When he pulled me from my grave.
Heavy sins held me down in my pride,
And now I walk that victory stride.
I found I was unworthy alone.
I had a strong need to atone.
I lost my focus on mere survival
When I awoke to God's arrival.
Finally, I found my worth as I walked
All the ways of righteousness I had talked.
His love came to tear up the dark veil.
Now my soul belongs to Him and not to Hell.
A wretched soul, He did save
When he pulled me from my grave.
Heavy sins held me down in my pride,
And now I walk that victory stride.

(The real feminists who fought and risked for women’s full participation in our society understood that men and women complement one another. How did we get to some who can’t tell you what a woman is?)
