Long Time, No Talk

THE EDGE Art Gallery - Alone In Contemplation and Prayer
Long Time, No Talk
by Michael Doyle

Though the Lord is my shepherd
I think you know, Lord, that it's inferred
That though I should not, yet I do
It's been a long time since I've talked to you

Standing as I am amidst life's mystery
Wondering at all that has passed before me
I marvel at what passes for melody
And am desperately in need of your harmony

Like a prodigal son, you welcome me
Opening my eyes daily to what I see
It has taken adjustment to my attitude
Yet, my heart remains filled with gratitude

There has come a time to keep things real
Here in this almost too late time to heal
And though my questions might feel an inquisition
What I have in mind is deep conversation

Anchored as we are by demands of propriety
My questions might not be the best for polite society
Here we are now alone, just us, face to face
What I need, Father, amounts to your grace

Thought For the Day: In the Courts of Law, One has the Constitutional Right To Face One’s Accusers and To Have Them Cross-Examined. In the Political Court, One Has No Such Rights.

“In courts of law one has a constitutional right to face one’s accusers and to have them cross-examined. In the political court one has no such rights. Slander and innuendo are the norm.” – Cal Thomas

First Principles: Act Worthy of Yourselves

“Our enemies are numerous and powerful; but we have many friends, determining to be free, and heaven and earth will aid the resolution. On you depend the fortunes of America. You are to decide the important question, on which rest the happiness and liberty of millions yet unborn. Act worthy of yourselves.” – Joseph Warren (1775)

First Principles: Abuses of the Press and Media Are So Important To Freedom and Science As to Be Deeply Regrettable As These Tend To Lessen Its Usefulness and To Sap Its Safety

“During the course of administration, and in order to disturb it, the artillery of the press has been levelled against us, charged with whatsoever its licentiousness could devise or dare. These abuses of an institution so important to freedom and science are deeply to be regretted, inasmuch as they tend to lessen its usefulness and to sap its safety.” -Thomas Jefferson (1805)

Notes That Play

Tristan & Isolde - A Note to Picture This
Notes That Play
by Michael Doyle

The notes that play
Remind us of yesterday
In happiness and sympathy
We feel this in the melody

That plays forever in our minds
The feelings we won't leave behind
Every second, magic we relive
All the notes that our hearts give

Heart stops along the way
Get us through our busy days
Whether we listen or we play
It's all in the tunes we live and pray

It's an amazing sense of grace
That our hearts love and embrace
All those songs from yesterday
Are what will carry us through each day

No matter the length to our miles
When we dance, I feel your smiles
And suddenly everything will be okay
You and music get me through my worse day

First Principles: A Universal Peace…Will Never Exist But In the Imaginations of Visionary Philosophers

“A universal peace, it is to be feared, is in the catalogue of events, which will never exist but in the imaginations of visionary philosophers, or in the breasts of benevolent enthusiasts.” – James Madison (1792)

Shorebreak Blues

Rainbow Reef
Shorebreak Blues
by Michael Doyle

Out there on my hideaway, ride the bay
I spend my moments in my casual way
Here to surf not to observe or talk
I watch the waves crash on Jackpot Rock

I feel Autumn come creeping in
Dreaming in my ocean soul again
Paddling north then again south
Out past Waimea's crystal mouth

It's an early morning light drizzle
Just before the sun begins to sizzle
And there she was swimming into my day
My island girl come to love and to stay

It's easy enough to work this out
But I think that maybe I have some doubt
About the bigger waves with tide rolling in
Gonna have to risk it as paddle out again

It's not something that I can easily fake
All the shapes in the clouds that we take
And talk story on about times spent and gone
And how all of old timers keep slipping on

I am feeling it with some kind of reverence
A beauty of an experience kept in preference
That each day I know I'll make my way
Out to where the waves meet shore everyday
