First Principles: There Must Never Be A Separation of Religious Values From the Lives of Public Servants

“We need to remember that the separation of church and state must never mean the separation of religious values from the lives of public servants. . . If we who serve free men today are to differ from the tyrants of this age, we must balance the powers in our hands with God in our hearts.” – Lyndon B. Johnson

It is striking that when reviewing quotes for this series that I have been doing that I find that it is not until the middle of the 19th century that the Democratic president quotes so far the only ones that speak of separation of Church and state and that it isn’t until the latter part of the 20th of Century that it’s found that the Democratic presidents seem to have mostly abandoned the founding principles of our republic.

A Humble Path Past Conflict

Part of living a life with more gratitude might include less fight and conflict and greater humility.  Poem #2 for this season of thankfulness:

New Life Christian Fellowship Church - Grace Bridges The Gap

A Humble Path Past Conflict
by Michael Romani

With gratitude not as demanding
Toward the God of my understanding
I seek to live more humbly
Than in my prideful theology

Having stumbled into openness
I have found a bit of somethingness
That has formed more into relationship
Than into form or ritual worship

It's crucial that we learn to communicate
And find peace in how we share and relate
So much of this can be seen in an angle
The power of three supplies its own triangle

Finding that tiny spark of shared divinity
Invited in with all effort at humility
It's there in the need to find the reframe
Instead of the conflict of fixing blame

Getting past the pain of people, places and things
To lessen all the unbearable urges these bring
The either/or found in the constant polarization
Brought on by a tribal sense of alienation

Instead let's strive to arrive at a new destination
By giving our ears and hearts and eyes with fascination
Healing with grace and in grateful humility
Co-creative in this, let's begin to build unity

In this unity, we will begin to find our peace
Bringing this gain by our intentional release
Of all the many or few things we allow or reject
And through this, let's find our way past petty conflict

First Principles: We Are As A People Opposed To Secret Societies, To Secret Oaths and To Secret Proceedings

“The very word ‘secrecy’ is repugnant in a free and open society; and we are as a people inherently and historically opposed to secret societies, to secret oaths, and to secret proceedings.” – John F. Kennedy

President Kennedy would be ashamed of the sham being run to date with respect to the contrived impeachment ‘proceedings’.  No thinking American aware of the role of unintended consequences in the precedent being set here could possibly support this regardless of how much one dislikes any particular person holding the office of the presidency.

Fields of Kindness

As this season of thankfulness and gratitude begin, I am examining thoughts about intention, kindness and even picking up a book tomorrow morning about having humility in discussions to increase peacefulness and argue less when dealing with others who have differing opinions.  Might be useful, right?

Fields of Kindness
by Michael Romani

Lately, I've been giving a lot of attention
To learning more about how to have right intention
Trying to see better and with less blindness
Reaching with intention towards fields of kindness

The world it seems that once held so many dreams
Verily seems to be coming apart at its seams
As so many on each side of just about everything
Would rather polarize than compromise on anything

It's seem to me that if want more God as we should
Then in seeking godliness we should work for the good
And find ways to work together as I think I surmise
Finding paths of mutuality that lead to compromise

Not compromising integrity in any stretch of meaning
But toward the wants and feelings of other human beings
And realizing that we might see more through other eyes
And that there is more abundance than maybe we realize

I hold these thoughts that I have with much latitude
Walking each step with hope, love and gratitude
There is much that I have come to somehow better see
In thinking on the wisdom shared earnestly with me

Thought For the Day: Socialism Proposes No Adequate Substitute For the Motive of Enlightened Selfishness Which Is the Basis of All Labor, Effort, Enterprise and Activity

“Socialism proposes no adequate substitute for the motive of enlightened selfishness that today is at the basis of all human labor and effort, enterprise and new activity.” – William Howard Taft (1857-1930)

Run of the Mill Hayride Halloween

Halloween Poem #31:

Home, Sweet, Haunt - The Haunted Woods -Big Jack Explains All The Little Pumpkin Needed To Glow

Run of the Mill Hayride Halloween
by Michael Romani

From the first snowflake that fell that day
It was a near certainty that the tricks at play
Would make every headless horseman see and know
That this extraordinary moment would be a show

The trick or treaters were out in their full force
With parents and grandparents there but, of course,
Finding their joy in watching children shiver and shake
As they streamed from home to house plundering their take

All in all, the fun in the fun was as much handy
As the pumpkins filled to the brim with so much candy
Two of the young tricksters probably had in their head
The past weekend's exploration of the Day of the Dead

The jack-o-lanterns with their candles fully aglow
Wink at the pranksters as if fully there in the know
As to which house gives the best candy and which won't
Lining up the tricks to be played even if they don't

Witches, goblins and shimmery white robed ghosts
Offer their own thrills and chills scarier than most
Or so the little ole white haired lady will say
Though she knows she's willingly hoodwinked with child's play

Happy, happy Halloween this year of twenty nineteen
I hope it's one of the best that you've ever seen
All Hallow's Eve leads to its November day
But candy lovers count it as another Halloween on the way

Ghosts of Bedlam

Halloween Poem #30 (the blog got messed up yesterday and I had to get it fixed by WordPress help – special thank you to the nice person who helped me!!)

Out of the Looking Glass/Into the Madness - Crawler In the Light

Ghosts of Bedlam
by Michael Romani

Sometimes staying the course
And remaining ever so strong
Can cause huge doses of remorse
And could never be more wrong

Medicine is meant to medicate.
What is isn't meant for
Is to cause you to hallucinate
Making you sicker is not an even score

The ghosts of Bedlam will not lie
However sickened their perspective might be
The truth is the truth, not to deny,
But to be faced bravely and with dignity

Procedures that take your mind
Are unworthy and surely contrived
Worthy of nothing but to be left behind
By those who are glad that they survived

Making wishes don't make dreams come true
This we all learn as life goes obviously on
Then we muddle through bravely on and on
Until our last hopes are made or are gone

There was a time when doctors would bleed
Us using leeches to affect a cure
It was discovered it wasn't what we need
Such are the ways of the scientifically impure

Insisting that they have answers that they don't
Lying to the allegedly mad as they conspire
Pretending for dollars to have help but won't
Until Bedlam is burned down with its fire

The fire of peevish ways of discovery
That washed away the ways proven to fail
The hope being to find at last recovery
For the sake of the mad souls they had doomed to Hell

Happy Halloween 2019!!

To all the spooky scary ghouls and guys out there, may your Halloween 2019 be the very best!!

“It’s Halloween! It’s Halloween!
The moon is full and bright
And we shall see what can’t be seen
On any other night.
Skeletons and ghosts and ghouls,
Grinning goblins fighting duels
Werewolves rising from their tombs,
Witches on their magic brooms
In masks and gown we haunt the street
And knock on doors for trick or treat
Tonight we are the king and queen,
For oh tonight it’s Halloween!”

– Jack Prelutsky
