First Principles: No Government Has The Power to Contend With Human Passions Unbridled By Morality and Religion

“We have no government armed with power capable of contending with human passions unbridled by morality and religion… Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other.” – John Adams

Thought For the Day: Make the World A World A Little Better For Our Presence Through Tolerance, Charity, Temperance, Peace and Kindliness

“I should dearly love that the world should be ever so little better for my presence. Even on this small stage we have our two sides, and something might be done by throwing all one’s weight on the scale of breadth, tolerance, charity, temperance, peace, and kindliness to man and beast. We can’t all strike very big blows, and even the little ones count for something.” – Arthur Conan Doyle, physician and writer (22 May 1859-1930)

In Remembrance of the Passage of the 19th Amendment

Lately, I have been a little distracted.  Aloha Promises Forever would like to raise a toast to the Centennial of the passage of the 19th Amendment that recognized the God given right for  women in the US to vote.  May it always be remembered that it was Republicans like Susan B. Anthony who championed this foremost and forced Woodrow Wilson to enact this against his will.

On this 100th Anniversary, please feel free to listen in above.

Graveled Voice

I was thinking the other day about another poet not so long ago another poet that I respect telling someone else that my shorter poems are more like rock lyrics.  That probably comes as somewhat of a surprise to some.  What short poems, right? 😉

Graveled Voice
by Michael Romani

In the rock salt blast of decadence
Where glowers blossom into transcendence
I sometimes find it wiser to be blind
Than see the mirrored times that I find

In the graveled voice of modern poetry
There is more going on than I usually see
There are too many sleepless nights I've faced
In all the high browed angst that I've embraced

My guitar strings ring out in a tremble
In a wordless prayer for a life more simple
Ringing out for blue skies turning into gray
As the failures of this man are sighed into yesterday

Gentle melodies surface just to disappear
As these wallow into memories of yesteryear
New voices heard beckon into new directions
Unknown and yet felt like karmic connections

Lyrical ideas rendered into voiceless sadness
Repeated kaleidoscopes of painted madness
These intrude like a wrongfully tendered promise
Like an apocalypse of strained compromises

First Principles: Freedom, Not Servitude, Is the Cure For Anarchy; True Faith Is the Cure For Superstition

“Freedom and not servitude is the cure of anarchy; as religion, and not atheism, is the true remedy for superstition.” – Edmund Burke, Second Speech on Conciliation with America, The Thirteen Resolutions (3/22/1775)

The Good Man Stands

Been spending some time at a Western museum lately.  When you think on the lives lived, something like this might come to mind?

Avilion- Australian Cowboy On the Dusty Divatina

The Good Man Stands
by Michael Romani

Troubles come
Troubles gone
The good man stands
As he carries on

Laying rail
Or busting sod
All's the same
In the name of God

Out in the prairie dust
It seems luck is the only God
It becomes hard to trust
When you're a broken as the sod

Trouble comes
And troubles gone
The good man walk
As he carries on

All the tears, he ain't cried
No time for that on the frontier
Many's the friend who up and died
But there ain't no time to shed a tear

Life is hard
Filled with action
So little time
To find satisfaction

Trouble comes
And troubles gone
The good man breathes
And carries on
