At the Cross

There are many approaches to the Cross.  I would say that regardless of the argumentation as to which is most correct, if we get there and accept our salvation, we are right with God.  If we’re right with God, then it doesn’t maybe really matter which is more correct.

Garden of Whimsy Christmas Hunt -Memories Cherished

At The Cross
by Michael Romani

There are many approaches to the cross
None of these are at any loss
But each of these are at least partially right
All of these have their own points of light

Christ succeeds where mankind failed
Even as Satan thought he had prevailed
But in His apparent death, our ransom was paid
As He rose up from the tomb in which he was laid

In an expansion of metaphor
Satisfaction is reached and them more
God gave His life in restitution
To save humanity by substitution

Saved from the avenging angel of death
We draw our salvation in God's breath
There interceded by grace and atonement
We find our way to spiritual contentment

Scapegoating our sins in covenant
Was the avenging God of the Old Testament
Our forgiveness given at the Mercy Seat
But it is there that the truth of God we meet

It's here that we stand between life and death
In that severity that catches our breath
The children of God serve in our absolution
Suffering becomes a necessary part of contribution

As a need for a guilt offering for us all
Which has remained the same since Eden's fall
To be a Holy Servant is to live for God's will
And in so doing, God's truth we do reveal

Here on this Sunday morning's contemplation
We find the truth of our own expiration
To find our way again to our deepest purity
That we might we might live our lives with integrity

Lured into our pleasant moments of temptation
We push off past moving into our best inspiration
Find our paths lead to our salvation
As we walk closer finding our differences into integration

First Principles: Constitutions For Free Persons Should Aim At Common Advantage of the Community

“Constitutions which aim at the common advantage are correct and just without qualification, whereas those which aim only at the advantage of the rulers are deviant and unjust, because they involve despotic rule, which is inappropriate for a community of free persons.” – Aristotle, Politics

Neon Century

Neon came and mostly went in the 20th Century.  Neon lights and even neon knights have made their mark.  But, like some other things in this age of rapid change, their time appears to have come and gone.

Winter Wonderland at Two Moon Paradise -Neon Orchid

Neon Century
by Michael Romani

Stepped up pages from tomorrow's history
Neon shapes illuminate the gallery
Once upon a night time's glowing
Neon, krypton and xenon knew all the knowing

How to light the way in the night
Electric lights over candlelight
Signifier of grand modern ambition
Destroyer of simpler traditions

Now these too disappear into the mist
Purveyors of soulful Broadway's kiss
They've held their day but mostly night
As the modern age follows a different light

Long seen as beacons shining their poetic night
Neon was the essence of cities at first sight
Uniquely artistic since their introduction
Handcrafted Neon was never a subject of mass production

Glass tubing filled with gaseous electrification
Carbon dioxide white and mercury blue amplification
Lit up the world of tomorrow's extraordinary
By magnificently infusing elements quite ordinary

Sometime around early 70s, neon use began to decline
Into all but art and memories such as held as mine
We had lived through the swagger of the neon century
And now only a handful artisans are left as legacy

First Principles: Sound Economics Is Based On the Advantages of Self-Interest Not Appeals To Humanity

“It is not from the benevolence of the butcher, the brewer, or the baker, that we expect our dinner, but from their regard to their own interest. We address ourselves, not to their humanity but to their self-love, and never talk to them of our necessities but of their advantages.”  – Adam Smith,  Inquiry into the Nature and Causes of the Wealth of Nations

Thought For the Day: Have Deep Gratitude For Those Who Light the Flame Within Us

“At times our own light goes out and is rekindled by a spark from another person. Each of us has cause to think with deep gratitude of those who have lighted the flame within us.” – Albert Schweitzer

The Wrong of Pop

Dedicated to Taylor Swift’s latest effort:

Peace Is A Choice Gallery - The Old Guitarist

The Wrong of Pop
by Michael Romani

A penchant for speaking truth
Ove humble country strums
Might speak of passion and youth
But offer no excuse for Jazzercize drums

Idiosyncratic bits of garish tackiness
Brings about the yikes of that is this
Sonic selfies as irreconcilable bits of grief
Just leaves me feeling empty in disbelief

Curdled smugness win the public's eye
Weave perceptions that make me question why
All the tricks and frazzle clank in confrontation
Spilling out the fun of indignation

At the thought of a helium prep rally
There's very little room for dignity
When the end game is catchiness as an end itself
Perhaps it's better left on the shelf

First Principles: Civil Liberty Understood Consists In Protecting Individual Rights Through Society’s Constraints and Force

“Civil liberty, rightly understood, consists in protecting the rights of individuals by the united force of society: society cannot be maintained, and of course can exert no protection, without obedience to some sovereign power; and obedience is an empty name, if every individual has a right to decide how far he himself shall obey.” – Sir William Blackstone, Commentaries on the Laws of England

Faceless Portraits Transcending Time

As remarkable as it may seem, AI, that is to say, Artificial Intelligence is not only being ‘taught’ to do art but some of the pieces already done to date are fetching upwards of $450,000.00 for portraits that an art teacher might well decline to accept as a finished product.  I suppose it’s true that anything a person can get away with now qualifies as art…

Faceless Portraits Transcending Time
by Michael Romani

Faceless portraits transcending time
In the harrowing months of heartless crime
A masquerade of art in collaboration
As AI anthropomorphized is spotlighted as creation

Which story will demand the highest bid
As algorithms decide what is hid
We stand at visual arts' reinvention
With the apparent happenstance of defying convention

Thinking rebellion for rebellion's sake
Is the best part of art we partake
But seemingly not giving care to where we go
With all of this and it's just on with the show

This has become seen as extravagant and contemporary
But to call it art is a shocking statement of honorary
Tweaked AI learning is not art even where fascinating
And that anonymous bid drive price is simply irritating

That is, of course, unless it's okay to believe
That art is simply what you can get away with and to deceive
Others into feeling the new and the surprising
To the point where non-art has become what's tantalizing

Deduced patterns can be sampled but not "art"
That is until machines beat alive and with heart
Unless you count drum machines and urinals as trends
And bluster driving attention as art's final friend

While credible takes are made of visual distinction
Contortions of portraiture are simply distractions
Regardless of mechanistic coherence and appeal
The presence of a true heart is needed to reveal

The meanings needed by every human's soul
Is that which seems lacking while needed to console
It seems this lesion was lost in the 20th Century
But, this hardly seems to me to be art's best legacy
