To Strive and Labor On
by Michael Doyle
Every day that we wake up alive
It's a new day for each of us to strive,
To see what it is that we're meant to do.
The doing of which is up to me and you.
Ours are the strong minds and skilled hands
That join together so we might build and mend.
Every day is ours, meant for us to understand
How hard we'll work before we let our days end.
To know the fullness of richness in our life's power,
Each day, we should work as the poor do for an hour.
In doing this, we are reminded to live and be kind.
Knowing the suffering of others leaves us less blind.
With our sweat and our hearts, we pave the way,
Weaving dreams into reality every Labor Day.
Our work is the pulse where true progress meets,
Be it the farm field or the urbanized street.
We sing a song of labor, and we sing it with love,
Taking our lessons from our Father above.
Every person on earth should earn their daily bread.
This is the way of wisdom, as so many have said.
Today's the workers' day of celebration.
Dedicated to those who built this great nation.
To sum it up, I guess it's best to say,
May you all have a wonderful Labor Day.

“The three great essentials to achieve anything worthwhile are, first, hard work; second, stick-to-itiveness; third, common sense.” – Thomas A. Edison

“Labor is prior to, and independent of, capital. Capital is only the fruit of labor, and could never have existed if labor had not first existed. Labor is the superior of capital, and deserves much the higher consideration.” – Abraham Lincoln

“Labor Day symbolizes our determination to achieve economic freedom for the average man, which will give his political freedom reality.” – Franklin D. Roosevelt

“The best protection any woman can have… is courage.” – Elizabeth Cady Stanton

“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” – Philippians 4:6-7

Intricate In Arrangement
by Michael Doyle
Loss of integral resplendence
Brothers of spiritual discipline
Off balance in our alchemy
It's easy to get lost in the harmony.
These are touches to the soul
Played out in our rock ' n ' roll,
It's the music that moves the feet,
Somewhere hot out on the streets.
Intricate in the arrangement,
The horn section knows no estrangement.
Everybody rehearses their part,
But you feel rock' n' roll from the heart.
Tumbling through with providence,
The music flows in reverence.
We have no time for heartbreak,
But there will be a few mistakes.
Perfection is for the crucified,
I've never wanted to be deified.
The audience dances in the aisle,
We all know the rites of survival.
Intricate in the arrangement,
The horn section knows no estrangement.
Everybody rehearses their part,
But you feel rock' n' roll from the heart.
It's personal to the very last note.
But none of these are played by rote.
The speaker cabinet spins round and round.
There's a celebration in what we've found.
The band explodes with the eights
While the guitars come in just a bit late.
It's that something that is proved all night.
This kind of magic is timed to be just right.
Intricate in the arrangement,
The horn section knows no estrangement.
Everybody rehearses their part,
But you feel rock' n' roll from the heart.
