Lighthouse Gallery -Reflections

Continuing with my promise to Angie, the following is based on The Twilight Zone, Season 1, Episode 21.

In the middle of the darkness and light
Out there in the middle of dark, stormy night
A traveler awaits her long overdue bus
While the ticket master wonders at the fuss
She stares back at him vapidly
As he tells her that things do not change so rapidly

Millicent is not subject to flights of fancy or fear
She a girl with a good head and not one for tears
All of which will soon be put to the test
Her sanity perhaps coming in s something second best
A thoughtful pause on a rainy night so sad
She begins to wonder if she is going mad

Her sanity is vainly caught on just one snag
It begins with the mystery of her moving bag
Suddenly peering into her doppelganger's reflection
Her mind at once begins to make the connections
The lightening strikes, thunder roars; she has her seat
But, sensibly her doubts will not beat their retreat

She sits in wonder at her set of seeming delusions
Challenging herself in all of this sudden confusion
A chance conversation with a friendly stranger
Gives her good cause to recount and recall the danger
Step by moment's step, she retraces all the events
Becoming ever more certain, this isn't just coincidence

The politely discuss what the possible causes might be
Examining and reexamining ever sort of possibility
Beginning to finally board the bus, she sees her face in a window
Looking down as her reality grasps it's ebb and flow
Her memory catches on a tale hear of parallel universes
And her thoughts admit they are shrill in their persistence

Each of us part and still equally there is a counter part
That from time to time commit hostile takeovers in the heart
Each of us born with this unholy sort of identical twin
Born without reason as naked creatures of bold sin
Parallel planes that scratch and edge at her slipping sanity
Playing hard on her sensibilities and her sense of vanity

The stranger first kindly arranges she be taken for observation
Calling the police for assistance in finding her destination
When soon after the stranger suddenly sees and chases his doppelganger
Suddenly aware of the truth and feeling a dread and danger
Reason dredged out of the shadows of seldom glimpsed reality
In the Twilight Zone, you are always on the edge of your sanity

  1. It’s a little difficult to try to make these stories into poems. But, when my eldest asks for something that I can give her? I do my best. Any suggestions on improving this effort is appreciated, Yassy. All I know is that I made a promise to one of my girls. I’m doing my best to set the example that a promise made is a promise meant and that promise meant is to be kept.
