First Principles: When Media Lies It Becomes Impotent

“But the fact being once established, that the press is impotent when it abandons itself to falsehood, I leave to others to restore it to its strength, by recalling it within the pale of truth.”  – Thomas Jefferson (1805)

Increasingly, we are finding ourselves in a position where American media is acting more like organs of propaganda than truth.  What once I thought I could rely on in my early youth as being fairly objective and trying to stick to the truth has become a cult of socialism that cares less for truth than propagation of agenda strewn misrepresentations and lies.  This, to me, is hugely reprehensible.

My only question is what do we do about it?  For myself, where I see these outright lies that are easily enough combatted with the truth be it in the comment sections of online news periodicals or on youtube postings such as news shows, I politely and firmly point out the exact untruth spoken and provide a polite but firm rebuttal using documentation where possible so that the lie can be clearly distinguished from the truth.  The most humorous result so far has been the PBS News Hour turning off the ability to make comments instead of reasonably responding if they thought their facts are correct and my documented facts are incorrect.  There’s a word for that right? 😉
