I Use To Be

Seasons of Life - The Geometry of A Grinning Knight

I Use To Be
by Michael Romani

I look around and I see
The makings of a tragedy
Seems like everybody
Is a tough guy
Except for maybe me
I won't even lie
God knows, I use to be
I truly use to be

I listen to the words fly
And know that I can't deny
A razor sharp perspective
Blazes by so inflective
Death by paper cut infections
Everyone has their recollection
I won't lie, that use to be me
You know that it truly use to be

A few too many quick jumps
Ending up in taken lumps
A few times words let loose
Turned to cooking my own goose
And now I choose hesitation
Mapping out my destination
Looking before I leap a little
Slowing down to take in the middle

Before jumping to conclusions
Getting caught in hasty illusions
Evading the mental contusions
Slow to add my contributions
Because I think I have maybe learned
From all the times that I've been burned
And that's no longer me
I've found maybe a better way to be

I look around and I see
The makings of a tragedy
Seems like everybody
Is a tough guy
Except for maybe me
I won't even lie
God knows, I use to be
I truly use to be
