Dare The Devil

Devil's Point - Down At The Station

Dare the Devil
by Michael Romani

Perched on top of the city
Feeling the ebb and flow pass by
Absorbing all of the violence
In a rushing cascade of sound
Lost up in the nitty gritty
It's an old flow in a new high
It's an endless sting of incidence
That nowhere else can be found

I'm no hero; I'm just a man
But that that has been born
To do the very best that I can
Even when I'm feeling a bit worn
Living life devoid of conversation
There are no words for the devastation
Daring the devil of the mean streets
I can't be slow when I need to be fleet

The questions outnumber the answers
In every passing face in this vast place
The feelings of loss spread like cancer
It's a wonder that even the rats keep this pace
So many warriors playing off the books
As life comes at us with a strong left hook
The saving grace is we are not alone
We're not solitary islands made of stone

There a lot of luck found in trusting others
Though not everyone is our sister or brother
But, it's a littler easier staying in the light
To shield us from the unexpected bumps in the night
Daring the devil while holding on to our pasts
Spending all the years laboring before the mast
Rattling heads for a little more of that information
I count it as a blessing that you're in my formation
