Based on Wednesday Night's Sermon and in Honor of All Saint's Day
Ordinary Times Blues
by Michael Romani
No respect given for the average Joe
Looking for some more flash to show
That's the society that we're living in
Getting it backwards in this land of sin
The daily grind that is daily fought
Prepares the person God has sought
It's in all of that life of the very ordinary
That God raises heroes up from obscurity
The ordinary times of incidental preparation
Brings God's servants to their destination
Too many busily off chasing the rabbit's hole
Completely missing the joy we lovingly extol
Stubborn days of willful disobedience
Strongly resisting being in the audience
Too many want to be the leading star
As life passes by, they don't get all that far
The tests of the traps of a wiser stewardship
Imperfectly unfaithful to the points of worship
We cannot out sin God's ability to restore
But in the end, we see the fullness of the score
In that one life that was sacrificed and given
The salvation of us all was gracefully driven
When on the third day, the Lamb rose back up
Sharing the transfiguration of the communion cup
Each time in the Bible, we see raised up from the dust
The man and woman called on, do just what they must
The Holy Spirit breathed in to each of these is seen
Making the ordinary into an extraordinary human being
It's the presence of God that makes this extraordinary
Transformational moments blessed by the Divinity
In times of darkness filled with bitter discouragement
Over and over, we see the fulfillment of God's intent
This dawns on me following the spirit in each story
How picking the flawed and scarred shows the glory
It's the Father's word making things happen for us
As we join hands in prayer, listen and discuss
Ordinary people living in times that demand more
Extraordinary callings that are offered at the door
Father in Heaven this is your wish for our faithful fate
Of serving you in living your Word in all that you create
