Sonic Gems: Lecuona Plays Lecuona – Ernesto Lecuona

Cuban composer and pianist Ernesto Lecuona y Casado was born on August 6, 1895.  Before he had passed away on November 29, 1963, he had composed over 600 pieces mostly in the Cuban vein.  Through these compositions, Lecuona raised Cuban music to classical status much like George Gershwin did for the music of the United States.

Like a mojito enjoyed in a breezy Havana café, this collection of Lecuona compositions offers insights into the Cuban soul.  After enjoying listening to this album again, Aloha Promises Forever gives these recordings a seven out of 10.  … And no, it’s not your imagination that Desi Arnaz borrowed extensively from this catalog of tunes.
