“The second office of this government is honorable and easy, the first is but a splendid misery.” —Thomas Jefferson (1797)

It is easier to be a critic and a naysayer than it is to govern. It’s harder still when you arrive into office with no holds barred partisan politics coming at you like alligators from two different directions. Corruption holds its sway over both parties in Washington, D.C. It’s a settled way of life and no one likes being unsettled by some upstart who believes in at least most of the founding principles of our nation.
Granted President Trump causes his own trouble… more often than he should. But, we knew that when the people voted him in. He came in with a message that resonates across America and yes sometimes he gets things wrong. But, not nearly so wrong as to be impeachable.
Even the leaders of the Democratic Party are slightly bemused by this attempt by a handful of contemptible persons to be bigger than they are in a negative way. Read through the allegations on which the impeachment is based. I had three reactions. First, to accidentally laugh aloud at the nonsense. It’s not impeachable to hold opinions different than a particular opposing side. It’s not even impeachable to be wrong even if President Trump was. Second, to review the facts again and know that I wish there was a law that said filing articles of impeachment for frivolous reasons was punishable by something other than the inability to be elected again. The third was to decide after laughing and shaking my head to join into the fray hopefully in mostly polite but firm denunciation of this sort of tactic.
