Transparent Metaphor
by Michael Romani
Metaphors are important
That's what she said
I agreed, they are significant
I kept that thought in my head
No gold star child was I
I could barely look her in the eye
Still, there was joy in her glee
And somehow, she ended up with me
We had no intention of rocking the boat
Or building castles surrounded by a moat
We just wanted to open up and sing
As shiny as the lights we would bring
We only knew we'd give our very best
Digging our treasures out of a buried chest
She laughed at me and thought it was funny
When I suggested that life wasn't just about money
I have heard she is married to a pilot now
But, that's okay, I don't miss her anyhow
And while I never did make the world dent
I did follow love and I won't repent
