Thought For the Day: Good Foreign Policy Begins With Good Government At Home

“Here is my first principle of foreign policy: good government at home.” – William Ewart Gladstone, British prime minister (29 Dec 1809-1898)

Thinking on this and bringing it to its modern conclusion, my question is do we find American citizens illegally migrating to other countries on epidemic levels or the converse?  We all know the answer to that.  So, perhaps instead of criticizing the United States for no longer being willing to pretend we do not have borders, perhaps those nations that criticize crack downs on illegal immigrants the most should perhaps learn how to better govern their own nations.  e.g., If Mexico would take advantage of its natural resources, crack down on crime (particularly cartels), and walk further away from socialism, perhaps then it wouldn’t be a place that people are fleeing but a place of good government and more importantly good lives for its people.
