Sat there watching from a safe distance

Being brave with some resistance

As I watched you undulate through the tree

Hoping your venom was not meant for me

I watched as your tongue tasted the air

Sensing your surroundings over there

Keyed in to the slightest vibration

It was a remarkable observation

As you poised ready to strike

Out there where I decided to hike

Oh, I know you were only following your nature

And that’s something I should probably nurture

But, I’d just as soon you didn’t bite me
