With its first session occurring in Atlanta in 1905, the United Sacred Harp Musical Association, more commonly known as the United Convention has stood out as a superior example of Sacred Harp singing. The recording below provides an excellent example of this sort of singing. Sacred Harp is a tradition of sacred choral music which originated in New England but came to be a tradition of the American South. It is based on an old tradition of American music that developed from 1770 through 1820 and is related to the revival services of the 1840s.
This music is preformed a cappella. It originated as a tradition of Protestant Christian music.
