The English writer, Izaak Walton was born in 1593. Before his death in 1683, he became famed as the writer of The Compleat Angler and series of leisurely written short biographies that have come to be collected as Walton’s Lives.
One such biography was that of George Herbert. Born on April 3, 1593, the Welsh born poet, orator and priest from the Church of England because best known for his metaphysical poetry before he passed on March 1,1633. He became recognized as one of the foremost British devotional lyricists. Giving up the public life to become a priest, he was noted for unfailing care of his parishioners. This was so much so that Henry Vaughan called him a saint and a seer. Sadly, he died of consumption at the age of 39.
