I didn’t plan it this way but I’m not complaining. Na/GloPoWriMo Day 21 is to be a poem revolving around Narcissism. Insert slightly sad but half grinning face here…
Narcissism Begs The Question by Michael Romani In this convenient moment, I give a quiet little shout out To the person who causes much torment And to remove all doubt I am told that you follow what I write Well, to you I offer this good night And hope you choke on my reply At your vapid wish that I would just die What might be said about someone Who believes children should be naught but reflection? What might be said about someone Who believes children should simply jump to on direction? You believe children are automatons who follow Every word that you say or it just doesn't flow Wanting total and full control over every ounce of them Like some kind of jackpot you've fought hard to win I watch as you show that children are to serve you Any failure to do less simply won't and will not do I believe we are to serve children in guiding them well Ours is to explain and not to simply shout and tell For now you have them dancing really, really fast But the day will come when that just won't last Trying to please the beyond difficult, impossible to please Has one of our daughters about ready to flee If all a child has is someone who ignores or scolds What sort of a life do you think that unfolds? We parents should be there in full reliance Not just when the children are in their fullest compliance Your freeze outs for perceived slights and transgressions Has led one of our daughters to have moments of aggression And while you might find it fun to be unpredictable and confusing It seems the more I watch I can only see this ending in you losing The smartest little girl in the world is thinking she isn't enough What kind of love are you giving her? I am calling your bluff Last visitation she stood with tears in her beautiful little eyes Enough is enough and I'm done with all of your tepid alibis She and her sister are as good as they are And I find that just right as each is their own star You do not get to define their worth though you try Why won't you listen and hear when they cry? Sinfully oblivious to the heartbreak you cause I hope when you read this, it makes you stop and pause The damage you keep bringing will last them a lifetime What I really want to know is why it isn't a crime... Please take a moment and think on their emotional needs The future tears that you've planted are bad seed I hope to live long enough to be there when needed Because I know these words aren't enough and won't be heeded (c) April 21, 2018 Michael Romani All Rights Reserved
