A Dark Waltz

Returning to the Halloween theme once again:

Haunted Dead Mist - Graveyard Waltz

A Dark Waltz
by Michael Romani

It seems that humans have always craved
The horror and taste of the darkly depraved
Massacre and slaughter in emboldened red
Play on the hunger that riots inside our heads

Bloodlust frenzy long into the shadowed night
Bring out things that hunger until first light
Letters of truth written quietly but bold
As the slow torture of guilt is weighs like gold

To dance this nightmarish dance of death
Drawn in and quartered unto the last breath
Matched together in the waltz of time
The predator and pray both touch the sublime

All eyes in the room turned toward the spectacle
As evil feigns society to present itself as respectable
Unequally met in the writhing of splendid pain
The masks worn break on the brink of the insane

Echoes of the past are felt nearly everywhere
As the eyes of the ancient ones begin to stare
As the offbeat melodic strains feel the night
And all that's good prays for coming first light

Just as suddenly, the music is over
The truth shines through the cloudy cover
The travesty is at once vividly displayed
And at once, escaping the master overplayed
