Based on 1 Peter 2:21-25

In the Suffering of Christ

Suffered for the cause of Holy Christ
It is the role that we my bear and live
Living to our best and to our finest
We suffer uncomplaining and forgive

We are saved by our Father's grace
With the ability and the power given us
As we accept the Lord's sweet embrace
And push forward and accept because

We are given to these days of our glory
Our salvation given us as the elect
It's part of the ongoing eternal story
Responding well when we want to reject

Everything we do is by taking on submission
Instead of raising our heads in vanity
Going out in our part in the Great Commission
The better part of this thing we call humanity

We follow the Way of the only perfect man
Jesus who walked as God among the least of us
Doing these things in humility best we can
Willingly fed to the lions and there just because

We keep our faith and confidence in The Way
Never denied our shepherd's gracious protection
We keep calm, God assured in our troubled days
This is something we should keep in introspection

Nothing happens outside God's atoning power
Everything we live is in His holy hands
Even in our times of solitary, darkened hour
Realized in our destitution disobeying His commands

We bow our heads humbly in our prayers
Climbing Jacob's ladders like these are stairs
In our hearts we keep our submission there
The chain breaker's truth keeps this all clear
