This poem of gratitude #22 is based on thoughts on the obsession on Instagram and elsewhere to have people like your image or what you say or what you do without any genuine connection. And.. the converse beauty of those who do truly love and like you and are connected with you no matter how real your real is.
Gratitude For the Real Love by Michael Romani Thankful for the love that's real It's never fake but what I feel As I walk and talk, not for favor But instead enjoying what I savor Life that is all around Has become a contest that surrounds Where everyone is pursuing a rating Life by numbers stress is not sedating It's to the point of always faking All that is worth the trouble of making The points of light shine false popularity It's numbers driven to the point of hilarity There's a velocity to be found in opinion's arc When all is given to knock the ratings out of the park Don't try too hard for collected thumbs up and stars Or you'll maybe end up rejected inside some loser bar Where gratitude offered tells us what's real And in the end, I humbly submit that's the real deal Be thankful for those around who really do care Keeping grounded by those who will always be there It's narcissism to seek out vaporous fame Where every move you make or don't is a game Instead keep toward being authentically you And the love you harvest will always be true Life, you see, is not a popularity contest And genuine smiles are those that are the best Not the fakes ones that make you want to cringe This is how you live a real life not being in the fringe (c) November 22, 2019 Michael Romani All Rights Reserved
