Thankful For That Yellow Brick Road

A poem of gratitude # 23 for the songs of my life that feel deeply in my heart:

Styx In Concert - Piano Rock

Thankful For That Yellow Brick Road
by Michael Romani

A pre-winter's chill is felt to the bone
As I sit here thinking all alone
Back and then further into my youth
Finding the pet sounds that felt the truth

In my heart, I stumble stack
Through the records of influence and then back
Tracking the aural passages of my mind
Half surprised at the echoed chords I find

Looking aside with castaway eyes
I find a drift of passages to my surprise
Thankful for that Yellow Brick Road
Lyrical glimpses at my future foretold

Strange how my voice has changed
As I've lived my life and rearranged
Sprung to life on the high notes of castratti
I would never become one for the glitterati

Flowing along on this course of melody
My memories smile a certain sensibility
Humbly asserting themselves on my keys
I am thankful for these notes that please

Linked moments deep in the pockets of soul
This sort of sound has had its own flow
These are the chords of life together
As I close my eyes knowing there is no better

Dogs of society have had their howl
And now I, as he, find myself back somehow
Knowing that there is no need for celebrity
But every need to live my life with integrity

Living every moment and then I'm back again
Never knowing where I'd land or even when
Until I found myself at last where I belong
Feeling the wonder of every moment of every song
