Covenant (Hesed)

Of all love, there is one love that stands above all else.  In this world in which love has become a very conditional thing given the give way at any moment of discontent or raised temporal passion, covenant love (hesed) is one of loyalty and devotion.  It is the love that is the love as love should be.

Covenant (Hesed)
by Michael Romani

Pausing with purpose and with temerity
We reflect on questions of our loyalty
All of us deep within God's family
Must understand the covenant of integrity

God loves us all fully and completely
His hesed is felt with deep authority
In the keeping of the promises of security
The presence of God is kept eternally

Sometimes it feels we live life on the run
That the Lord has forgotten us; we are undone
Sins considered though blinded in our eyes
We must keep trust with each passing sunrise

God's love is rich in its deep tender mercy
Despite our doubts and ill thought out heresy
His faithfulness is felt by us all so kindly
Even in times of life when things go so badly

God is pleased to give His greatest something
In return for our bits and pieces of almost nothing
Deserving in almost missing out on God's grace
Let our scales remove and accept His loving embrace

To love forever and without any real end
Is a noble endeavor that transcends
All the troubles we bravely endure
Such is God's hesed, undeserved yet pure

This is the good news of the gospel
That is the Lord's will not ours that prevails
As we wrestle on the life's stormy seas
And He delivers us from our aft seeming travesty

No one who turns to God is ever turned away
We earnestly rest in this promise every day
God's hesed promises are eternally given
With each and every believing heart forgiven
