Fragments Beyond Authenticity

In the words of Bob Dylan, the times are indeed a-changin’

Fragments Beyond Authenticity
by Michael Doyle

In a world less versed in prophecy
Caught up in its whirl of hypocrisy
The by-word become feigned authenticity
And nothing is scarier than pure honesty

All particles in all places are unified
With this knowledge, science becomes deified
We can now choose our very existence
So, the world tells us with some insistence

Like an angel, you seek your flight
Realizing too late that the descent into night
Crushes with mortal flesh onto the concrete
Bleeding out in your graceless final defeat

A candlelit vigil will not do to restore
Your precious life extinguished as we pour
Our solace poorer than the soul cried out in dreams
The fabric of your truth ripped out at its seams

Too far a fall revealed the flaw
Heard within the raven's final caw
That some things of fatal resilience
Only resemble the sheen of brilliance

Cannonized behind the stained glass windows
Is a revelation of trembled ineuendo
The heat of cold indifference is on display
The sword of His word brings down our day

Sad to know that there no true reality
Just that shift of calculated punctuality
Where time no longer has any real meaning
And each of us are mere fragments of humans being
