On Autumnal Equinox 2020
by Michael Doyle
The world speaks of falling back
The world thinks on falling back
Yet, it is that as Fall comes to lock
We enter our Southward Equinox
The Sun has shifts its celestial destination
No longer balanced in the Libra constellation
It has moved into alignment with Virgo
And yet when we look to the ground we still see shadow
Is this then not to be as it is and expected
All of life around abounds and is not to be neglected
So much of what passes for life passes in fragments
Each of these might be justly seen in its climatic segments
To some, it's a cardinal point in the wheel of the year
Another midpoint of festival, timed to be of good cheer
Some take their shelter as it were in the harvest home
Giving thanksgiving for the blessings of not being alone
The ancient oak king begins once again to gain his power
As the sun wanes and begins to shrink in its earlier hour
Autumn leaves begin to turn their colors thinking of falling down
In a farewell to summer as seasons change their holy crown
